D Family: we had to settle for the park

What do kids and weather have in common?  Both are so unpredictable!  Unfortunately the D family fell victim to Lexington's mid-summer storms that pop up out of the blue!  After rescheduling a few previous times due to rain, we were bound and determine to make this session happen.  The evening of our session Mom D calls to report her husband is in Nicholasville and claims it is pouring buckets...where I live in Lexington...dry as a bone.  A few minutes later Mom D calls again to report her husband is now in downtown Lexington (where our shoot is going to take place) and it is still raining and the streets are flooding.  What?!  I live like 4 miles west of downtown and not a drop has hit our sidewalks!  So since no rain is in sight in my part of the city, Mom & Dad D make their way to our neighborhood park.  Talk about a wild goose chase!  Off in the distance we can see some dark clouds looming so we don't waste any time squeezing off a few shots.  Just as we are about to wrap up with the oldest son's lollipop pictures, the heavens open up!  Nothing like lickin' on a huge lollipop and playin' in the rain!  Fortunately I was able to edit most of the rain drops off his face...no worries he wasn't sweating that profusely...I'd call off a shoot for extreme heat! ;)  Enjoy!

The O Twins: Keeneland

B & K are adorable twins!  I couldn't believe how well they played together!  Their mother told me they always have someone to play, it is sorta like the neighbor kid that never leaves. ;)  Hmmm...I'll have to ask my husband if he would describe his relationship with his twin growing up!  It sure is a special bond that I'm sure no one else can understand.  :)

These kiddos were adorable!  Rough and tumble, pointing out the airplanes as they flew overhead, and trying to peer into the barn to see if there really were horses in there (nope, I'm pretty sure they'd keep their horses away from curious sightsee-ers as ourselves ;)

This is the location for our September mini session - so everyone can get a sneak peak of the location!  Enjoy!

B Family: Waveland

Once again, this is a family who has kept rescheduling since the beginning of May due to rain!  Thanks for holding out so long - I think their images were well worth it!  ;)  They just wanted a few family shots, some of the kids and most of their 2 year old daughter.  Their son is the definition of 'boy' - silly, rambunctious and athletic.  And their daughter is the definition of 'girl' - prim and proper, particular, dressy, and full of smiles!  We had a fun time, for sure!  :)

*REPOSTING ~ New Additions* Props for Babies & Kiddos!

So amongst the wedding, regular sessions, and mini sessions I'm editing, I'm finding some time to 'wind' down at night by crocheting.  Ahhh...it is like my 'nothing box.'  If you're not sure what a 'nothing box' is, check it out here...we first learned about it during our premarital classes.

Ok, so back to crocheting...my fav project has been owl hats.  Here are three I've made.  What I love about these hats is the endless possibilities of color combinations and experimenting with different eye sizes, etc.  So I've made a few trips to my 'nothing box' in the past weeks.  :)  The pattern is from Little Abbee and I found her shop on Etsy.  I stocked up on 6 different crochet patterns (very reasonably priced and simple, precise instructions).  I can't wait to show you more!

I'll keep updating as I crank out new styles!  And I can make them to sell...I'm actually selling the pink and brown owl hat tomorrow.  :)

Owl hats $20

Owl hats $20

Bear hat $15, Diaper Cover $15, Cap $15

Homespun hat & diaper cover set $25, Frog hat & diaper cover set $25

Boy or girl caps $15

Soccer Team Pics

One of my loyal customers has made it her purpose in life to keep me in business...ok joking, but she has sent several families my way; and when she asked if I would be interested in photographing her son's soccer team, I was thrilled!  Of course I had to put together a list of products and prices.  Lucky for me the professional lab I use offers 'package printing' for school and sports teams.  Yay!  The lab also offer lots of cool products such as a memory mates (team & individual pictures printed with sport graphics), buttons, magnets, tickets (that's right...make your own personalized event ticket), and trading cards just to name a few.  Anyway, here are two 'good sports' who let me use their pictures.

Shelby: YMCA Campaign for Kids Silent Auction Winner

Shelby was the YMCA's Campaign for Kids silent auction winner for Amanda Mitchell Photography.  She opted to have her bio picture for work updated through this session.

Shelby is a Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial.  She spends her workdays helping individuals, couples and families determine their financial goals and how to achieve them.  Her website is www.ameripriseadvisors.com/shelby.g.fink  however...give her a little while to get her new pic posted!  :)

I cannot stress the importance of a financial advisor...even if you think you're too young!  As newlyweds, Nate and I made it a priority to financialy plan for the present and long term future.  Today's economy may bring unsettling news, but a financial planner can leave you rest assured.

Jess & Sam: Lexington Backyard Wedding

Jess and Sam have first met when they landed jobs at Simpson Optical...and it was nothing but laughter, goofing off and true love.  I must say I thoroughly enjoyed finding out who Sam really is...a guy who practices his 'blue steel' pose and perfects the gorilla walk (when he thinks no one is watching).  With Jess, I quickly learned there is 'Rhineheimer time'...meaning everything happens on her timing...even if their ceremony started 30 minutes.  Ok, so I wasn't watching the clock, but I know we were behind on pictures - but with a ceremony taking place in your backyard, who cares if you run late!  There must never be a dull moment with this couple!

The couple chose Waveland as their formal session location.  With the flexibility of having the ceremony at your home, any location for formals is game!  As you can tell we enjoyed the cool shade of the porch (a cold glass of lemonade or sweet tea was the only thing missing).  I guess I forgot to mention their wedding day was sunny and a high of 95!  Boy, we were all sweating!  Not to mention the guys had their FBR (aka: fat boy rags) on hand for a sweat swipe between shots.  And that would also be the reason we don't have many pics of the guys with their jackets.  ;)

Their backyard, which is extra spacious due to city-right-of-way, was decked with Chinese paper lanterns, a dance floor illuminated with various sizes of white lights, and tables sprinkled with flower-filled mason and vintage type jars.  And the food?  All the fixings for a BBQ right down to the sweet tea and lemonade!  It sure was a party with all the little kids running around and the make-shift dance floor!

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day.  Also, don't forget to check out the various slide shows to see more of the evening.  Enjoy!  To see the entire collection of pictures, go here - but you'll need to get the password from the bride and groom.
